West Valley slips past Cheney

Matt Roth went 8 of 12 from the free-throw line and finished with 22 points and 22 rebounds as the West Valley boys hit enough free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Cheney (10-7, 6-5) 60-57 in Great Northern League play Tuesday at WV.

DeAngelo Jones finished with 28 points for the Blackhawks, but an 18-9 run in the second quarter by the Eagles (10-7, 7-4) proved to be too much to overcome.

Deer Park 55, Medical Lake 34: Colton Peone led all scorers with 21 points, adding 11 assists, and the Stags (12-5, 8-3) put the game out of reach in the third quarter with an 18-2 run against the Cardinals (2-15, 1-10) to start the second half in Medical Lake.

Pullman 60, Riverside 42: Beaux Burnham had 19 points, Austin Drake added 13 and the Greyhounds (9-9, 7-4) knocked off the host Rams (6-11, 3-8) to keep a hold on fifth place in the GNL.

District 7 1A

Newport 71, Kettle Falls 29: Jake Wiley finished with 16 points and seven rebounds and after sitting tied at 15-15 after one quarter with the Bulldogs (2-18), the Grizzlies (8-13) outscored them 56-14 the rest of the way in Newport. The Grizzlies advance to play No. 1 seed Freeman on Friday at Mead High School.

District 7 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 81, Northport 46: Derek Isaak scored 38 points and Cody Jess tallied 20 as the Warriors (14-7) used a 23-4 run in the second quarter to put the visiting Mustangs (7-14) in a 24-point hole by halftime. ACH will play the winner of Odessa vs. Wellpinit Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Deer Park.

Wilbur-Creston 51, Inchelium 36: Austin Snavely recorded 23 points and 11 rebounds and the Wildcats’ bench outscored the Hornets’ reserves 17-0 as W-C (12-8) used a 10-0 fourth-quarter run to knock off the visiting Hornets (15-7).

Cusick 73, St. Michael’s 51: Spencer Shanholtzer led four Panthers (18-5) in double figures with 14 points, adding eight rebounds, and the Warriors (3-14) fell behind early as Cusick shot 21 of 35 from the floor in the first half for 43 points in Cusick. The Panthers will play Wilbur-Creston at 2 p.m. Saturday in Deer Park.

Panorama 2B tourney

Springdale 73, Republic 66: Deylin Peone and Rodney Abrahamson combined for 49 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, and the Chargers (12-10) held off the Tigers (11-10) in Kettle Falls. Clay Anderson did his best to bring the Tigers back, scoring 17 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, but the Chargers prevailed, advancing to the District 7 2B tournament.

St. George’s 41, Selkirk 36: Gerhard Muelheims had 16 points and hit a pair of free throws down the stretch as the Dragons (17-5) earned the Panorama 2B tournament title with a win over the Rangers (13-9) in Kettle Falls. The Dragons will advance as the No. 1 seed to the district tournament and Springdale as the No. 2.

Caribou Trail

Lake Roosevelt 54: Okanogan 49: Cade Egbert scored eight of the Raiders’ 13 fourth-quarter points and finished with 17 to lead the Raiders (13-6, 10-3) to a win over the Bulldogs (14-5, 8-5) in Okanogan.

Girls

West Valley 55, Cheney 51: Hannah Love finished with 24 points and went 4 of 4 from the free-throw line down the stretch and the Eagles (17-0, 11-0 Great Northern League) avoided their first loss of the season by overcoming a 13-point third-quarter deficit to beat the visiting Blackhawks. The Blackhawks (8-9, 4-7) led throughout the game, but were outscored 19-6 in the final frame.

Medical Lake 48, Deer Park 42: Kaitlin McNeill scored a game-high 17 points and helped give the Cardinals (6-11, 5-6) a six-point lead over the Stags (5-12, 2-9) that would hold up in Medical Lake.

Pullman 74, Riverside 44: Danielle Hodge scored 17 points, Shelby Cheslek added all 10 of her points in the first half and the Greyhounds (13-4, 10-1) shot 24 of 44 from the field, including 4 of 9 3-pointers, to run away from the Rams (2-15, 0-11) in Riverside.

4A Region I

Moscow 32, Lakeland 17: Jamie Quillian tallied almost as many points as the Hawks (9-15) as a team, scoring 15 to lead the Bears (7-15) to a regional title and a berth at the State 4A tournament Feb. 19-20.

Bi-County 2B tourney

Lind-Ritzville 33, Valley Christian 31: The Broncos (13-8) never led by more than seven in the game, but stopped the visiting Panthers (8-13) on their last possession with time running out to earn the win and advance to play Reardan on Thursday in Reardan. Katie Worley had 13 points to lead VC and scored with 35 seconds left to draw the Panthers within two points.

Northwest Christian 37, Liberty 32: Lisa Vandenburg finished with her first double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her 10 points and the Crusaders (11-10) used clutch free throws in the final minutes to hold off the visiting Lancers (11-10).

Panorama 2B tourney

Springdale 62, Selkirk 44: Shelbea Rainbolt scored 13 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Chargers (18-4) expanded a five-point lead to 18 by game’s end, outscoring the Rangers (8-14) 26-13 in the final frame in Kettle Falls. Chantel Dixon hit 4 of 7 from 3-point range and also had 18 for the Chargers, who advance to the District 7 2B tournament Monday.

St. George’s 55, Republic 40: Chessey Thomas scored 21 points, Lizzie McQuaded added 15 and the duo scored 15 of the Dragons’ (20-2) 20 points in the decisive second quarter that saw them outscore the Tigers (16-5) 20-4 before the half at Kettle Falls. The Dragons will advance to the district tournament as the No. 1 seed, while the Tigers will advance as the No. 2.
