Cal completes sweep of WSU

Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 19 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had five steals Friday night in Pullman as California beat Washington State 62-44 for the second time this season.

Freshman DeNesha Stallworth scored 14 points and Talia Caldwell 12 as the Bears (13-10, 7-5 Pac-10) extended their winning streak over the Cougars (6-17, 1-11) to 11 games.

After trailing 44-25 midway through the second half, Washington State went on a spurt that cut the lead to 10. But that was as close as they came as the Cougars could not stop Gray-Lawson and lost the battle on the boards 49-39.

Cal outscored Washington State 32-19 in the first half, converting 16 points off 14 turnovers. Washington State ended the game with 24 turnovers.

Cal outshot Washington State 40.3 percent (25 of 62) to 28.6 percent (18 of 63).

The Cougars struggled from the free-throw line, hitting only 5 of 10.

Stanford 58, Washington 36: Jayne Appel scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and the No. 2 Cardinal (22-1, 12-0) overcame a quiet night from leading scorer Nnemkadi Ogwumike and rolled past the Huskies in Seattle.

Jeanette Pohlen scored seven of her 10 points in the opening moments of the second half as the Cardinal never let Washington recover from shooting just 13 percent and scoring a season-low 12 points in the first half.

Regina Rogers led Washington (9-13, 4-8) with 10 points, but the Huskies made just 4 of 31 shots in the first half.

Puget Sound: 81, Whitworth 74: The No. 17-ranked Loggers (19-3, 11-2) led by as many as 13 in the second half and held off the Pirates (11-11, 7-6) 81-74 in Northwest Conference action in Spokane. Cassie Pilkinton led the Pirates with 27 points.

North Idaho 75, Snow 55: Kama Griffitts and Chantel Divilbiss combined for 27 points and the Cardinals forced 20 turnovers en route to a Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over the Badgers in St. George, Utah.

The Cardinals (21-3, 12-3) held a 17-point lead over SC (18-7, 9-6) at halftime, shooting 46.7 percent from the floor before the break. Divilbiss hit 10 of 11 free throws to help lead the Cardinals to a 16-of-19 performance at the line in the second half.

CC Spokane 65, Blue Mountain 50: Meghan Eisenmann went 8 of 12 from the floor for 18 points and added five rebounds as the Sasquatch rolled to a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges victory over the Timberwolves (8-13, 1-9) at Spokane Falls. CCS (14-7, 6-4) held the Timberwolves to 28.8 percent shooting, with Alisha Crane scoring 12 points to lead the way for the T-Wolves.
