Protesters should be grateful

The Spokesman-Review

A protest like this just proves how uneducated these “kids” are (“Students, faculty rise up against cuts,” Feb. 5). It’s about time they are reminded that they are presently only tax spenders who will one day soon, we hope, learn enough to become taxpayers.

They had better learn soon that nothing is free, someone worked hard for their money and then gave a large portion of it to the government so they could achieve the educational opportunities they are enjoying.

For tax-spending students to organize a demonstration march because they feel their multibillions being offered to them is not sufficient is the height of selfish ignorance. Apparently, they don’t realize that one day it will be up to them to do the paying as we have been doing for years.

Students, look at the state budget and see the already high ratio allotted to education.

What you should be doing is figuring out ways you as a student could help improve the efficiency of your classes and the entire college. Similar to what President Kennedy said, start thinking, “Don’t cry about what your school is presently doing for you; ask what you can do to help your school.”
