Wellpinit, Cusick advance to state

Cody Flett hit all seven of his free throws in the fourth quarter, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and his two free throws in the final minute lifted Wellpinit (20-3) to a 69-67 victory over Almira/Coulee-Hartline (14-8) Saturday at the District 7 1B tournament in Deer Park.

Cody Jess and Derek Isaak combined for 43 points for the Warriors, but a 3-point attempt with 10 seconds remaining went wide and the Redskins held on for the win to earn one of the district’s three state tournament berths. Wellpinit will play Cusick on Saturday for the district title. ACH will play Inchelium on Wednesday, needing a win to advance to a winner-to-state game.

Cusick 57, Wilbur-Creston 37: Spencer Shanholzter tallied 18 points and six steals and the state-bound Panthers (19-5) held Wildcats (12-9) leading scorer Austin Snavely to two points, building a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and cruising to the win in Deer Park. W-C plays Odessa on Wednesday in a loser-out game.

Inchelium 61, St. Michael’s 40: Tony Louie had 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Chad Rosenbaum added 10 points and 18 boards as the Hornets (16-7) eliminated the Warriors (3-15) with a win in Deer Park.

Odessa 57, Northport 22: Freshman Kramer Schutz led all scorers with 22 points and the Tigers (9-13) eliminated the Mustangs (7-15) in Deer Park.

Great Northern

Clarkston 71, Colville 48: Dustin McConnell went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line, finishing with 18 points and eight assists, and the Bantams (14-4, 10-2) rolled to a win over the Indians (4-14, 3-9) in Colville. Trey Sobotta added 12 points for the Bantams, while Jordan Anderson led Colville with 12.

District 9 1B

Rosalia 72, Touchet 57: Jim Maley finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Nathan Richards added 18 points and 10 boards and the Spartans (21-0) built a 41-15 lead over the Indians in the first two quarters in Rosalia. The Spartans will play St. John-Endicott on Friday for a state berth.

SJE 35, Tri-Cities Prep 27: Mason Van Lith and Dylan Schmick combined for 24 points and the Eagles (12-10) took an 11-point halftime lead to knock off the Jaguars in Pasco. TCP will play Colton on Monday.

Girls basketball

District 7 1B

Columbia 49, Sprague-Harrington 29: At Deer Park, Lindsay Loe had 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double and the Lions (21-3) held the Falcons (8-14) to 14 points through the first three quarters to earn a win and one of three state tournament berths. Columbia will play Almira/Coulee-Hartline for the district title on Saturday. The Falcons will play Curlew in an elimination game Wednesday.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 68, Wellpinit 51: Nikki Osborne finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds and Madeline Isaak added 13 points and four assists as the Warriors (19-3) knocked off the Redskins (9-13) in Deer Park for a state berth. The Redskins will play Cusick on Wednesday for a chance at a winner-to-state game.

Curlew 42, Odessa 21: Larissa Miller hit 8 of 12 from the free-throw line and scored 18 points as the Cougars (10-12) held the Tigers (3-19) to five points in the second half for the win in Deer Park.

Great Northern

Colville 65, Clarkston 43: Ashley Knight scored 16 points, Tanna Morris added 11 and the Indians (11-7, 6-6) erased a four-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Bantams (8-10, 6-6) 35-9 in the second half in Colville.

Idaho 3A District I-II

Kellogg 56, Timberlake 50: Chelsea Morgan had 17 points and Ryder Ashcraft scored 13 to lead the Wildcats (16-8) over the Tigers (18-4) at Lakeland High in Rathdrum. After being tied through three quarters, the Wildcats held the Tigers to eight points in the fourth quarter to advance to state.

Idaho 1A Division 1

Troy 59, Lakeside 34: The Trojans (19-5) eliminated the Knights (10-8) from the postseason, building a 15-point lead by halftime with a dominant post presence at Lakeland High in Rathrdrum. Tah-wy-ah Davis led the Knights with 14 points and Maria Garcia added 10.

Gymnastics

Trailing Greater Spokane League rival University for much of the day, GSL regular-season champion Mead rallied by placing five girls in the top 10 in the balance beam – led by Catie Pratt’s score of 9.325 – to win the regional 4A meet with a score of 169.85 in Kennewick. U-Hi (166.5) finished second while Kamiakin (164.15) took third.

By winning the regional meet, the Panthers will bring all members of the team to state: seniors Rachael Becker and Hilary Hahn; junior Molly Sheahan; sophomores Kendra Sherman and Danielle Turner; and freshmen Courtney Butler, Jordan Helgesen, Josie Nesbitt, Kodee Kinder and Pratt.

Advancing for the U-Hi Titans are Stacie Davis, Amber DeMaine and Moriah Knowles. Lewis and Clark will send Lily Hoch.
