Whitman College student dies in ski accident at Bluewood

WALLA WALLA — A Whitman College student from California died in a skiing accident at the Bluewood resort near Dayton in southeast Washington. The college said in a statement Monday that 19-year-old Richard O’Brien of Davis, Calif., struck a tree Saturday and was fatally injured. He was wearing a helmet. A gathering with the family and friends will be held Tuesday on the Walla Walla campus to celebrate his life.
