SCOPE fundraiser at the Grange looking for auction donors, attendees

Billie Martin

In case some of you are not aware, Elk has a Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort office at the Inland Grange on the corner of Nelson and Conklin roads.

The SCOPE volunteers have a retired patrol car in need of some emergency supplies. To help with that goal, as well as to help keep the Elk SCOPE office up and running, volunteers are planning a Spring Fling Fundraiser – rummage sale, bake sale and raffle March 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Inland Grange.

They are asking for donations of clean, gently used clothes, sporting goods and knickknacks. You can contact Kathy at (509) 292-2604 or Mary at (509) 844-8334 to arrange pickup or delivery of your goods. They ask that you not drop off anything at the Grange unannounced. SCOPE is a nonprofit organization.

The office is open Mondays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Membership meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. For more information, call Mary Enquist at (509) 292-9457.

The Grange also houses God’s Closet Free Clothing Bank, which is open Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon. For information or to arrange a donation, call Karen Sowle at (509) 292-8253.

The Inland Grange’s regular meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. For more information, call Gerry McElfish at (509) 292-0663.

•The Elk VFW would like to remind everyone about its fundraiser luau, live and silent auctions and dance with live music on May 22. The VFW is seeking donations of large and small items in good condition for the auctions. Gift items, gift certificates for items or services or gift baskets would be appreciated. For more information, call (509) 292-8479.

•June seems like a long time ahead, but that is when Elk Pioneer Days takes place, and the plans are well under way.

The Elk Community Park Association is looking for volunteers to help with the community’s biggest festival of the year. Volunteers are needed to help with the parade on Saturday morning.

The park association would like to invite individuals, community organizations and/or businesses to set up kids activity or game booths. If you can help with kids activities, call Cheryl Joy at (509) 292-0577 or e-mail cherylj@ joycodrilling.com.

The park is always open to new volunteers, and if you would like to be part of all the activities, meetings are held at the Elk VFW Post on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Spring cleaning is coming up, and the group will be installing a new half-court basketball area at the park.
