Weight crusade could backfire

The Spokesman-Review

In the Feb. 9 issue of The Spokesman-Review’s Today section was an article about Michelle Obama’s crusade to slim down overweight youngsters. This apparent march to glory for Mrs. Obama has also been all over the television news.

What keeps bothering me about this is the seeming lack of other voices, saying what this will do to these kids, emotionally. Most of these kids are already feeling like misfits, without their shortcomings being pointed out by otherwise well-meaning adults, and used against them. This will be devastating to the children, in many ways.

Psychologically, this will be an A-bomb.
