Tax proposals welcomed

The Spokesman-Review

Thank you, Chris Gregoire. Finally, a political leader who has the courage to suggest raising taxes.

These used to be called “sin taxes,” but there’s no sin in adding an extra incentive for the public to think twice about things we don’t need or that are not good for us in the first place. One small example: We buy bottled water when tap water is actually tested for bacteria many times more. And yet, two million plastic beverage bottles are used in the United States every five minutes. Shouldn’t there be a use fee on that?

We say, bring on more taxes! Would we pay another nickel for a cup of coffee, another dime for a bottle of wine to keep our schools and other services operating at full capacity? You bet!
