Tax proposals misstated

A chart detailing the Washington House and Senate budget plans in Wednesday’s paper contained wrong information. The Senate is proposing tax increases of $918 million. Increases, with amounts generated, include: An increase in the general sales tax for three years by three-tenths of a cent per $1 spent ($313 million); elimination of tax preferences or “loopholes” for various businesses and the trade-in credit on vehicles ($518 million); and an increase in the cigarette tax by $1 per pack ($85.7 million).
