In brief: Trail Blazers’ comeback falls short in OT

NBA: Derrick Rose scored 33 points and Luol Deng added seven of his 23 in overtime to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 115-111 home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Brandon Roy’s jumper with 3:46 left in overtime gave the Blazers a 107-106 lead, but Kirk Hinrich answered for the Bulls with a driving layup.

Portland came back and Roy tried for the lead but missed a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left. Deng finished on the other end to seal the game for the Bulls with a dunk.

Cavs use OT to dispatch Raptors: Mo Williams made back-to-back 3-pointers in overtime and finished with 22 points, LeBron James scored 36, and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Toronto Raptors 126-118 on the road.

Antawn Jamison scored 22 points and Delonte West added 15 for Cleveland, which won its third straight.

Jarrett Jack and Andrea Bargnani each scored 24 points for the Raptors.

Westbrook leads Thunder to victory: Kevin Durant scored 25 points, Russell Westbrook narrowly missed his second triple-double against the Minnesota Timberwolves in less than a week, and the Oklahoma City Thunder cruised to a 109-92 home victory.

Westbrook had 18 points, matched his franchise record with 15 assists and also grabbed eight rebounds before being removed from the game in the final 4 minutes and the Thunder up by 22.

Jordan reaches deal to buy Bobcats: Michael Jordan has struck a deal to buy controlling interest of the Charlotte Bobcats, taking charge of the money-losing team in his home state.

The purchase price was not immediately available.

Wilson ties Villegas with late run

Golf: Mark Wilson shares the lead with Camilo Villegas halfway through the Phoenix Open after birdies on the final four holes of the second round at Scottsdale, Ariz.

Villegas slipped into a tie at 11-under-par 131 after 36 holes when he missed a 14-foot putt for par on the 18th Friday.

Eleven players are within two shots of the lead.

Anthony Kim, Ryan Moore and Rickie Fowler are one shot back at 10-under 132.

Stanford, Kim share lead in Singapore: Angela Stanford shot a 1-under 71 for a share of the lead with Song-Hee Kim after the second round of the HSBC Champions.

Stanford, the former TCU star who has four LPGA Tour victories, and Kim (70) had 5-under 139 totals on Tanah Merah’s Garden Course during another hot, windy day where the temperature reached 94 degrees.

Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa, tied for the first-round lead after a 68, had a 79 to drop eight strokes back at 3 over. Wendy Ward of Edwall, Wash., shot a 5-over 77 for a 152 total.

Ferrero reaches third straight ATP final

Tennis: Juan Carlos Ferrero made it to his third straight tour final when Juan Monaco retired from their Mexican Open semifinal at Acapulco, Mexico.

Monaco was leading the opening set 5-4 when he took an injury timeout to treat an injury to the left side of his ribcage. The Argentine player returned to the court and lost the next three games, handing the set to the Spaniard 7-5, and then retired.

In the women’s draw, eighth-seeded Polona Hercog of Slovenia reached her first WTA final by defeating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-3, 7-5. She will play top-seeded Venus Williams who defeated Edina Gallovits 6-2, 6-2.

Djokovic, Youzhny reach final in Dubai: Defending champion Novak Djokovic edged unseeded Marcos Baghdatis 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final of the Dubai Championships at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Djokovic will play Mikhail Youzhny, who defeated Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 7-6 (4) to reach the Dubai final for the second time in four years.

Kurt Busch wins pole at Las Vegas

NASCAR: Kurt Busch shattered his brother’s track record with a pole-winning role at Las Vegas, the track he and Kyle Busch consider to be among the most important on the series. The Las Vegas natives watched construction of the track, hopeful to one day get a chance to race there – and maybe even win.

Busch turned a lap of 188.719 mph to claim the top starting spot for Sunday’s race. Jeff Gordon was second with a lap at 188.646. Ryan Newman qualified third and was followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch.

Patrick sad to step away from NASCAR: Danica Patrick has one more NASCAR race before a four-month hiatus to return to the IndyCar Series, and she’s admittedly going to miss being away from her new team.

Patrick is running a 13-race Nationwide Series schedule for JR Motorsports.

Next up is today’s race at Las Vegas, then she’s back to IndyCar until June.

Wambach scores twice in U.S. win

Miscellany: Abby Wambach scored both goals as the United States beat Norway 2-1 in soccer’s Algarve Cup at Olhao, Portugal.

The U.S. can reach the final Wednesday with only a draw on Monday against Sweden.

Chinese gymnast underage in 2000: China should be stripped of its bronze medal from the 2000 Olympics because one member of the squad has been found to be underage, international gymnastics officials said.

Dong Fangxiao was 14 during the Sydney Games, according to an investigation by the International Gymnastics Federation. Gymnasts must be 16 during the Olympic year to compete.
