In brief: Library to host LEGO competition

COEUR D’ALENE – The Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave., has a number of events in January.

•The fifth annual LEGO-rama will be Jan. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Children ages 4 to 13 are encouraged to enter their designs and will be judged in age groups 4-6, 7-10 and 11-13. Builders ages 14 and older may display their designs but will not be included in the judging.

Entries should be built prior to the LEGO-rama event.

Kids ages 5-8 are invited to participate in the LEGO Club. It meets on Thursdays, 4 to 5 p.m.

•Introduction to computers, the first of three free computer workshops, will be offered on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The workshops are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and no pre-registration is required. For more information, call Christopher Brannon at (208) 769-2315, Ext. 456.

•Winter reading programs for children begin on Jan. 12. The programs are free and are available for newborns through age 12. For more information, call (208) 769-2315, Ext. 438.

•Historian Robert Singletary will present a 12-part regional history series, “North Idaho: Connections to the Past,” beginning with “The Native American Connection” on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.

•Beginning Jan. 15, the library will offer free game days with the library’s Nintendo Wii systems and handheld Nintendo DS lites.

City plans to pick up Christmas trees

POST FALLS – Post Falls Sanitation will provide free Christmas tree pick-up on Jan. 16 and Jan. 23.

Fresh-cut trees may be picked up on Jan. 16 for residents who have their garbage collected on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Trees may be picked up on Jan. 23 for residents who have their garbage picked up on Thursdays or Fridays.

Trees need to be cut into 4-foot lengths and placed on the curb before 6:30 a.m. on garbage pick-up day.

Fresh-cut trees may also be dropped off at the Prairie Transfer Station, Prairie Avenue and Pleasantview Road.
