Agreed The Colorado Rockies and catcher Miguel Olivo agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract Monday that includes a club option for 2011. Olivo hit .249 with 23 home runs and 65 RBIs in 114 games for the Kansas City Royals last season, when he served as A.L. Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke’s catcher for 31 of his 33 starts. Olivo threw out 18 of 74 base stealers. The 31-year-old also has played for the Marlins, White Sox, Mariners and Padres. He is a .243 career hitter with 96 homers and 330 RBIs in eight major league seasons.

Retired Kentucky coach Rich Brooks has announced that he is retiring after seven seasons coaching the Wildcats. He will be replaced by offensive head coach Joker Phillips, who agreed to become Brooks’ eventual successor two years ago. Brooks, 68, finishes his career with a 39-47 record at Kentucky. He went 130-156-4 overall in 25 seasons at the collegiate level, which included 18 seasons at Oregon, where the field is named after him. He was 13-19 in two NFL seasons with the St. Louis Rams.

Finalists Cincinnati’s Joe Nuxhall, Montreal’s Jacques Doucet and Toronto’s Tom Cheek have been voted finalists for baseball broadcasting’s Ford Frick Award for the second straight year. Cheek received 5,930 votes, Doucet 5,183 and Nuxhall 1,363, the Hall of Fame said Monday. They join seven broadcasters selected by a Hall of Fame research committee: Billy Berroa, Skip Caray, Lanny Frattare, Graham McNamee, Jon Miller, Herb Score and Dave Van Horne.

Signed Michael Andretti’s IndyCar team has signed Ryan Hunter-Reay to drive a limited schedule in 2010 with the hope of making it a full-time ride. Phillips-Van Heusen and its Izod brand will sponsor Hunter-Reay’s No. 37 car, the fourth Andretti entry. Hunter-Reay will drive for Andretti Autosport in the Indianapolis 500 and other races.

Expecting Four-time defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife are expecting their first child. A spokesperson for the driver says Chandra Johnson is due in July. Johnson won his fourth consecutive Cup title in November. He was the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year last month, becoming the first race car driver to win it in its 78-year history.

Pleaded The general manager of the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders has pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a teenage girl. Eric Tillman’s trial in Regina was to have begun Monday. He has been on paid administrative leave from the team. Tillman, the married father of two, was charged last February after a 16-year-old girl alleged he sexually assaulted her last summer.
