The faculty of Central Valley High School will compete in an able-bodied wheelchair, Shoot for the Stars basketball exhibition game with Team St. Luke’s athletes during halftime of the varsity basketball game with Ferris High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Students and teachers are working to raise awareness and funds for the U.S. Junior Paralympics team. The DECA program at the school is selling black T-shirts and will throw a student dance after the game. The goal is to raise $2,500 to buy a new racing wheelchair for Team St. Luke’s. Cash donations also will be collected at halftime.
“Our goal is to paint the gym black on Jan. 8,” said Robin Barnhart, the DECA adviser at CV. “We want to encourage students, staff, parents and community members from both teams to wear black at the game, the color of the T-shirts being sold to support Team St. Luke’s.”
The game will be held at CV, 821 S. Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley. For more information, call (509) 228-5100 or visit www.cvsd.org.
