Valley in brief: Food giveaway at Millwood church

MILLWOOD – Volunteers from West Valley School District and members of Millwood Presbyterian Church will distribute food to those in need on Friday at the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road in Spokane Valley, from noon to 2 p.m.

Second Harvest of the Inland Northwest will provide the produce and fresh food in its mobile food truck.

The food is for anyone in need of assistance. No appointment or documentation is necessary, but participants must be present in order to receive food. They are encouraged to bring a box.

Help for first-time homebuyers

CHENEY/SPOKANE VALLEY – Community Frameworks will hold an informational meeting about homeownership opportunities and affordable mortgage lending for first-time homebuyers on Tuesday at the Cheney Branch Library, 610 First St. in Cheney, at 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday at the Spokane Valley Branch Library, 12004 E. Main Ave., at 5:30 p.m.

At the meeting on Tuesday, Community Frameworks will give information about Takoda Park, a single-family new home community located in the West Plains in the Cheney School District. At Wednesday’s meeting, they will discuss Valley Pointe, a new quality, affordable townhome community being developed near University City in Spokane Valley, and describe how you can purchase a new-construction home with affordable financing and down payment assistance.

The meetings are free and open to the public.

Spaghetti dinner planned Jan. 31

SPOKANE VALLEY – St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road, will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Jan. 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The all-you-can-eat event will be held in the church hall and will include a full dinner of spaghetti and meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert, coffee, and milk.

Tickets are $8 for adults, seniors are $6, children 6 to 12 are $5 and kids 6 and younger are free.

Youth soccer needs coaches

SPOKANE VALLEY – Coaches are needed for the upcoming Spokane Valley Youth spring soccer season.

The season runs April to May and the outdoor soccer league is for ages 4 to 13.

Concert a tribute to Judy Garland

POST FALLS – The Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., is selling tickets to the Valentine’s concert, “A Tribute to Judy Garland.”

The Feb. 14 event will feature Ruth Pratt singing the music of Garland. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:30.

Tickets are $20 per person.
