Man charged with stealing beer from Valley store

Officers were called to the Jackpot Food Mart, 7018 E. Sprague Ave., about 11:30 p.m. Saturday by a clerk who said they watched a man pocket a can of beer and leave the store without paying, according to Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

When confronted by the clerk, the suspect, Rodrick Coppock, 47, allegedly pulled out the can of beer and tossed it at the employee. He then left walking east on Sprague Avenue.

After the clerk identified Coppock as the suspect, Officer Nathan Bohanek drove him to the Spokane County Jail and booked him on charges of third-degree theft and fourth-degree assault.
