Another Hundred Years’ War?

The Spokesman-Review

It would seem that al-Qaida has suckered us in the Western world into playing “Whack-a-Mole.” As we bury the club into the sand in Iraq, they pop up in Afghanistan. Now that we are aiming at them in that Godforsaken country, they are popping up in Yemen and we are raising our arm to whack them there. What is next? Somalia? Nigeria? Indonesia? The Philippines?

I wish that I had the answer to what is shaping up to be another Hundred Years’ War, but I don’t, and I am not certain that anyone else does either. I do know that just closing Gitmo will not make these savages go away. I am only certain that a dead terrorist is no longer a threat. We must dedicate ourselves to a long war, a possible open conflict with Iran and new resolution to fund and support our intelligence agencies.

We had damn well better get real about what a war is and soon.
