Piper leads Eagles to win over Bobcats

Julie Piper led all players with 17 points and eight rebounds and the Eastern Washington Eagles remained unbeaten in Big Sky Conference play with a 69-63 victory over the Montana State Bobcats on Saturday in Cheney.

Chene Cooper came off the bench to score 15 with four steals for the Eagles (9-6, 3-0), while reserve Tatjana Sparavalo scored 12 on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.

Eastern remained tied with Portland State atop the conference standings. The Vikings edged Montana 49-47 in Portland.

Sarah Strand paced the Bobcats (8-9, 1-3) with 15 points and six rebounds.

Montana State outshot the Eagles from the floor 45 percent (24 of 53) to 37 percent (22 of 60), but Eastern hit 23 of 27 free throws while the Bobcats made 8 of 11.

Arizona State 64, Washington State 59: Danielle Orsillo scored 19 points as the Sun Devils (9-6, 1-3) picked up their first Pacific-10 Conference win of the season, beating the Cougars (5-10, 0-4) in Pullman.

Becca Tobin added 17 points for the Sun Devils.

April Cook topped the Cougars with 11 points.

Washington 69, Arizona 59: Kristi Kingma tied a career high with 25 points to help the Huskies (8-6, 3-1 Pac-10) earn a win over the Wildcats (7-7, 1-3) in Seattle.

Laura McLellan added a season-high 15 points – all in the second half – for the Huskies.

Davellyn Whyte scored 20 to lead Arizona. Ify Ibekwe added 16 points and 15 rebounds.

George Fox 60, Whitworth 51: The Bruins buzz saw continued. This time at Whitworth Fieldhouse.

George Fox shot 67 percent from the floor in the second half to erase a four-point halftime deficit and the defending NCAA Division III champions earned their 23rd straight victory in Northwest Conference play.

Elise Kuenzi tallied 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead the way for George Fox.

Kim Bluff poured in a game-high 18 points for the Pirates, while Cassie Pilkinton chipped in with 10 points and four assists.

Fresno State 72, Idaho 64: Jaleesa Ross scored 15 and Joh-Teena Filipe added 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (11-5, 2-0) past the Vandals (2-12, 0-1) in Western Athletic Conference play in Moscow.

Rachele Kloke poured in a career-high 26 points for the Vandals, who saw an 11-point lead evaporate in the game’s final 10 minutes.

Big Bend 58, CC Spokane 48: Dana Bates had a double-double – 22 points, 11 rebounds – to propel the Vikings (8-5, 1-0) to a win over the visiting Sasquatch (8-4, 0-1) in a NWAACC opener.

Eleaya Schuerch and Brooke Randall topped CCS with 13 points apiece.

North Idaho 76, Southern Idaho 62: Tugce Canitez piled up 13 points and 15 rebounds to guide the Cardinals (14-2, 5-2) to a win over the visiting Golden Eagles (12-5, 4-3) in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Kama Griffitts and Camille Reynolds each had 17 points for the Cardinals, who have won seven straight and sit in second place. Amy Warbrick scored 15. Shauneice Samms topped CSI with 18 points.
