Playoff badly needed

The Spokesman-Review

Why is it so darn difficult for the NCAA to figure out a playoff system for college football?

There are all kinds of excuses as to why it can’t be done, when in fact it could be done very easily, and would likely increase revenues as well as fan base.

This year there were 34 bowl games, 14 of which were played in 2010. If only seven of the 14 major bowls were used for a playoff series, the top eight ranked teams would be able to play for a chance to win the true national championship.

How may of those top-rated teams would complain about traveling or playing too much? How many fans would complain about too much football? And how many school administrators would complain about all the extra income generated by these games?

And what a boost to the local economies of the cities hosting these games. The only losers would be the BCS, and aren’t they already losers?

Get it done before Congress gets involved and really screws things up.
