Discovery of hand grenade by motorist closes streets
A hand grenade closed streets in Coeur d’Alene Monday after a man on his way to turn the device in pulled over and called authorities. The grenade was found in the home of an elderly couple who died.
A man cleaning the home called a family member while driving to the police station, “who told him to immediately pull over and call police,” according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
The man, whose identity was being withheld, stopped in the 100 block of N. 7th Street about 2 p.m. Police contacted the Spokane County sheriff and Fairchild Air Force Base bomb disposal unit.
The bomb squad took the grenade and streets reopened.
