Guantanamo exit way past due

The Spokesman-Review

It is with regret, disappointment and shame that I note the Guantanamo internment center is still open after eight years.

It is now evident that the current administration’s self-imposed Jan. 22 date for closure will not be met. Moreover, the facility is still holding some 100 detainees who have been screened and cleared for release.

The continued existence of Guantanamo marks a blot on our national honor and betrays a promise which swayed many of us who cast our vote in the last presidential election.
