Mead High presents ‘Broadway Night’

Broadway has come to Mead High School with “Broadway Night 2010,” at the Mead High School Theatre on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The production, performed by the choirs in coordination with students from the stagecraft class, is “completely original, utilizing music from classic and contemporary Broadway to weave an original story line together,” according to an e-mail from music teacher Mike Saccomanno.

The two-act show will include 30 songs from Broadway favorites such as “The Producers,” “Annie,” “Spamalot,” “Hairspray,” “Guys and Dolls,” “RENT,” “A Chorus Line,” “Wicked” and “Footloose,” performed by soloists, small groups, and the full 100-voice ensemble accompanied by student and professional musicians. The show is fully staged with choreography, props and a complete sound and lighting design.

Mead senior Tyler Smith is starring as the host of the variety show and senior Jake Foerg will be the emcee. Featured soloists include seniors Jeremy Rise; Kaitlin Kadel; Rachel Sok; Megan Voigtlaender; Jordan Hardy; and juniors Lise Hafso; Kaelan White and Phoebe Davis.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. To purchase tickets and for more information call the school business office at (509) 465-7031.

Chase kids earn tickets to skating

Chase Middle School students who received a 3.2 grade-point average and above the first quarter of the school year will be honored with a free ticket to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships men’s free skate Friday morning. Roughly 400 seventh- and eighth-graders and 20 chaperones will be heading to the Arena on 10 buses just after school starts to attend this event.

The tickets were donated by the Communities in Schools grant, which fund after school programs. Nikki Golden, the assistant principal at Chase, said “I was lucky to be the recipient.”
