Cardinals storm back

COOS BAY, Ore. – At one point during its dual wrestling meet against Southwestern Community College Thursday, North Idaho had lost four consecutive matches and five of six, digging into a 19-3 hole with Joey Pierotti the only victor at 157 pounds.

Led by Steven Vassquez at 174, NIC (11-2) rallied, scoring the last 19 points of the dual for the 22-19 win.

Vasquez dominated Anibal Vazquez of SWOCC for a 12-2 major decision before Celic Bell (184) and Kameron Jackson (197) set the dual even with back-to-back pins – each in the second round – against Hank Turner and Tim Hester. Roger McCovey then sealed the victory at 285, scoring a 5-1 decision over Matt Parsons.
