Region in brief: Man found shot to death in alley

Early morning gunfire left a man dead Sunday in Spokane, police said.

The victim, identified only as a male in his late 30s, was found about 3:40 a.m. in an alley in the 5400 block of North Crestline after authorities were alerted to several gunshots in the area, according to the Spokane Police Department. The man had been shot, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Detectives with the department’s major crimes and gang enforcement units are investigating the attack.

Fire displaces family of six

A North Idaho family of six and their three dogs were displaced after a residential fire Saturday around 4:51 p.m., according to the Timberlake Fire Protection District.

Timberlake Fire responded to the blaze at 9977 E. Remington Road in Athol with 12 firefighters, two support personnel and four engines. Northern Lakes Fire Protection District sent one engine and three firefighters, and Spirit Lake Fire Protection sent five firefighters, one engine and one ambulance, officials said.

No one was at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.

The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho is assisting the family with food, shelter and clothing.
