Bringing down the Winehouse

From Wire Reports

Amy Winehouse pleaded guilty Wednesday to assaulting a theater manager who asked her to leave a family Christmas show starring Mickey Rooney because she’d had too much to drink.

The British soul diva, whose scrapes with the law often overshadow her music, was fined 185 pounds ($300) and told she will avoid further punishment if she does not commit any more offenses for two years.

Winehouse, 26, admitted charges of disorder and common assault during a Dec. 19 performance of the pantomime “Cinderella,” in which 89-year-old Rooney played the heroine’s father, Baron Hardup.

The petite singer had earlier admitted drinking five vodka and cola drinks before the show.

Audiences at British pantomimes, a popular form of seasonal variety show, are traditionally rambunctious and are encouraged to shout at the stage and join in with the songs.

But prosecutors said Winehouse’s behavior went beyond the usual audience participation.

Waxing presidential

A wax figure of Michelle Obama has been unveiled at Madame Tussauds’ London museum to mark the anniversary of her husband’s inauguration.

The figure of the stylish first lady, in a sleeveless purple dress and black sweater, was placed next to one of President Obama in a re-created Oval Office.

New to the aria

Lindsay Lohan will attend next month’s famous Vienna Opera Ball as this year’s guest of quirky, 77-year-old Austrian entrepreneur Richard Lugner.

Lugner’s recent dates include Nicollette Sheridan, stripper Dita Von Teese and Paris Hilton.
