First Presbyterian seeks donations

First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., will assemble World Vision caregiver kits Feb. 20 and needs donations and volunteers.

The kits will contain basic medical supplies such as cotton balls, bars of soap, anti-fungal creams and latex gloves. Volunteers from the community and church will gather at the church to assemble the kits from noon to 4 p.m. The kits will be sent to World Vision.

During the kit building, there will be a video about the caregivers, the people they are helping and volunteers will hear stories of how these donations impact the area. There will also be World Vision Child Sponsor Packets for the children of Haiti.

In addition, the middle school students of the church will participate in “30 Hour Famine,” a 30-hour fast to raise funds and awareness of starving children in the world. The goal is to raise $26,000 to feed the children. This figure was chosen to represent an estimated 26,000 children who die each day from starvation.

Each kit is $30 and the deadline to purchase them is Feb. 7.

World Vision has trained 77,000 caregivers in Africa, Asia and Latin America to administer care and first aid in areas struggling with disease.

To order a medical kit or to volunteer, call Catherine Klingel at (509) 624-9298.
