Replaced New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has pulled out of the Pro Bowl after a season in which he played with rib and finger injuries. He has been replaced by Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans. Brady was chosen for his fifth Pro Bowl but withdrew for the second straight time. It is the first Pro Bowl for Schaub.

Hired The Washington Redskins hired Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator, Matt LaFleur as quarterbacks coach and Jon Embree as tight ends coach. The appointment of Shanahan, son of head coach Mike Shanahan, had been known, but the team had not formally announced it. The younger Shanahan had been the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator. LaFleur worked with Kyle Shanahan as an offensive assistant for the Texans the last two seasons. Embree was the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight ends coach from 2006-08.

•Louisiana Tech has tapped Arizona Wildcats offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes to replace Derek Dooley as head football coach. Dykes has coached in college for 15 years and has been with Arizona since 2007, serving as both offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He has never been a college head coach. Dooley left to replace Lane Kiffin at Tennessee.

Agree Outfielder Andre Ethier has agreed to a $15.25 million, two-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ethier gets a $500,000 signing bonus and salaries of $5.5 million this year and $9.25 million in 2011.

•Left-hander Doug Davis and the Brewers are close to finishing a $5.25 million, one-year contract to bring the former starter back to Milwaukee. The deal will be finalized in the coming days.

Suspended New York Islanders defenseman Andy Sutton has been suspended two games without pay after leaving Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis bloodied after a hit from behind Tuesday.

Named The U.S. ski jumping team will go to the Vancouver Winter Games with Anders Johnson, 20; Nick Alexander, 21; and Peter Frenette, 19.

Fined Boston forward Rasheed Wallace has been fined $35,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing officials after the Celtics’ 99-90 loss to Dallas on Monday.
