The Slice: Just keep the halls decked

At what point does it make more sense to just leave the Christmas stuff up because December will be here before you know it?

Let’s move on.

Family Phrases Department: When Mike Carr’s daughters were young, they often attended athletic contests where he was coaching.

“They were always fascinated with the cheerleaders, but they pronounced it ‘leer leaders,’ and ever after, that’s what they were called.”

Both girls wound up becoming leer leaders themselves.

When his oldest daughter was about 5, Timothy Chavis introduced her to the comedy stylings of Larry, Moe and Curly. She referred to the slapstick trio as “The Three Students.” That stuck.

And Carol Johnson’s 3-year-old granddaughter once called their junk drawer “The drunk drawer.”

“We still call it that to this day,” said Johnson.

Yes, it’s convenient: But renewing driver’s licenses by mail has at least one drawback. Surely some of those who attest that their vision is fine are not telling the truth.

Of course, I’m not sure how many people actually got flunked for poor eyesight back when you had to renew in person.

Besides, in an era when some drivers are not even paying attention to the road, maybe virtual blindness isn’t the No. 1 traffic-safety risk factor.

A reader who is tired of being asked about not having children said…: It would be nice if Spokane were known as a great place to mind your own business.

Slice answers: Glenn Jacklin realized he was going bald when, at the age of 10, he looked around a room full of older male relatives and noticed that they all had lost their hair.

And David Saiz doesn’t care what out-of-town media types think of Spokane. “They’re only passing through,” he said.

Today’s Slice question: Will the fact that Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday alter your game plan?
