More than 400 journalists have press credentials at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, including a handful of journalists from Japan. Ryusuke Shiraishi, 37, works for Kyodo News, a Tokyo-based wire service, out of their Los Angeles bureau.

Many Japanese women like Johnny Weir. He’s so fashionable. And has skating techniques.

Spokane is a nice city, but I have no time to spend sightseeing. From the DoubleTree, I can see the river. My (friend) studied at Gonzaga University. He told me Spokane is a heartful city, but very cold in the winter. No snow here is surprising.

I eat the sushi in the Suki Yaki Inn. It was (better) than I expected. Three of us from Japan went. Very nice.

I worked here last weekend. Monday morning, back to L.A. Monday afternoon, I covered a swimming race. Famous Japanese swimmers swam with Michael Phelps. I had Tuesday off. Wednesday, I watched ESPN looking for news connected to Japan. Thursday, I flew back here. Working in the United States is very fun.
