1910 fire centennial events set

From Staff Reports

WALLACE – Volunteers and donations are needed to help put on events for the 100th anniversary of the 1910 fire, which burned more than 3 million acres across Idaho, Montana and northeast Washington.

Special projects include memorials for fallen members of Forest Service Ranger Ed Pulaski’s crew, plus other fire victims in Shoshone County; an interpretative sign at the Wallace Visitor Center; and restoration of firefighter memorials at Nine Mile Cemetery.

A Fireman’s Ball in Wallace on March 6 will kick off the commemoration, followed by the May 20-22 meeting of the Inland Empire Society of American Foresters in Wallace.

Local communities are planning additional events Aug. 19-21, including speakers, tours and exhibits.

Donations can be dropped off at U.S. Bank’s Silver Valley branches, or sent to 1910 Fire, c/o Forest Van Dorn, P.O. Box 444, Osburn, ID 83849.
