Arrivey’s jump sets meet record

Washington State high jumper Trent Arrivey set a personal-best height of 7 feet, 41/4 inches at the Cougar Indoor Invitational on Saturday in Pullman.

Arrivey’s jump was also a meet record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Teammate Ryan Deese, a junior, finished second with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7-1/4.

Junior Marlon Murray equaled his personal-best time in the men’s 60-meter hurdles (6.82 seconds) and led a first-through-fifth Cougars finish.

In finals on Friday, Stephan Scott-Ellis broke the meet record in the long jump at 24-31/2 and just missed the freshman school record set in 1983.

Idaho’s Mykael Bothum won the women’s shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 52-91/4.

Idaho’s Lucas Pope bettered the meet record in the pole vault at 17-31/2.

The Washington State men’s and women’s team will be competing in the Texas A&M Challenge meet Friday and Saturday in College Station, Texas, against teams from the Pac-10, Big 12, and SEC.
