Lewiston runs past Lakeland

Strong starts to each half, and balanced scoring, were the keys to Lewiston’s 71-39 Inland Empire League girls basketball win at Lakeland on Monday night.

Senior Nicole Redd had 19 points and Karlee Wilson 14 to lead four Bengals (14-2, 3-2 IEL) in double figures. Jessica Kramer added 13 points and Savannah Blinn 10 for Lewiston.

Neena Buchman had eight points to lead the Hawks (7-12, 3-2), who struggled from the free throw line in the first half.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 54, Walla Walla Valley Academy 36: Alexandria Overton scored 18 points and Desiree’ Chappell added 12 to lead Tekoa-Oakesdale (7-7) to a nonleague win over the visitors.

Victoria Buell led Walla Walla Valley with 20.

Boys

Walla Walla Valley Academy 69, Tekoa-Oakesdale 65 (OT): A 7-1 run to start the extra period fueled a surge by the visitors, who overcame turnover problems to beat the Nighthawks in the nonleague game.

TO (2-12) led 57-55 with 16 seconds left in regulation, but a late WWVA layup forced overtime.

Drake Hinkins led TO with 24 points, 10 in the third quarter, and nine rebounds. Michael Hanson led WWVA with 17 points.
