WV wrestlers win


Deven Silva, in the 152-pound weight class, and Joe Harris, at 160, earned back-to-back pins Tuesday to help propel the West Valley wrestling team to a 59-24 victory over Pullman in Great Northern League dual action at West Valley.

After the Greyhounds (0-7) jumped out to an 18-0 lead with a pair of pins and a forfeit, the Eagles (0-3) scored 59 of the last 65 points to run away with the win.

College swimming

Whitworth junior Kalen Darling earned Northwest Conference student-athlete of the week for his sport in helping the Whitworth men beat Whitman for their 70th straight conference dual victory. Darling won the 400-yard individual medley, the 500 freestyle and his winning time of 16 minutes, 13.57 seconds in the 1,650-yard free was the top time in the NWC this season.

The Pirates’ Ashley Lecoq won the award in women’s swimming. Lecoq earned the honor by winning two individual events – including the 100-yard butterfly (59.01). She also swam the butterfly leg of the winning medley relay (1:52.22).
