Boykin leads Bears

Jamal Boykin scored a career-high 25 points and had 10 rebounds, and California defeated Arizona State 78-70 at Tempe, Ariz., on Thursday night to remain alone atop the Pac-10.

Jerome Randle scored 25 points and Patrick Christopher added 21 for the Golden Bears (14-6, 6-2 Pac-10), who nearly blew a 16-point lead in the final 15 minutes.

After Arizona State pulled to within 67-66 with three minutes remaining, Cal’s Jorge Gutierrez hit a 3-pointer, and the Golden Bears pulled away down the stretch.

Eric Boateng had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Ty Abbott added 20 points for Arizona State (14-7, 4-4), which has lost back-to-back home games.

Oregon State 51, Southern California 45: Calvin Haynes scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half to lead the Beavers (9-11, 3-5) to a comeback victory over the Trojans (12-8, 4-4) at Corvallis, Ore.

Oregon State trailed by 10 in the first half and didn’t take its first lead until Roeland Schaftenaar’s layin gave the Beavers a 35-34 advantage with 11:29 remaining.

Arizona 76, Stanford 68: Derrick Williams scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half and Arizona (11-9, 5-3) held off the Cardinal (10-10, 4-4) at Tucson, Ariz., for the Wildcats’ third consecutive victory and fourth in five games.

Oregon 71, UCLA 66 (OT): Tajuan Porter and Matt Humphrey scored 15 points each as the Ducks (11-9, 3-5) beat the Bruins (9-11, 4-4) at Eugene, Ore.

Humphrey, in his second game back since missing two months because of knee surgery, opened Oregon’s scoring in overtime with two 3-pointers to put the Ducks ahead 61-57.

Oregon’s E.J. Singler scored six points in the final 1:10 of overtime.
