DUI suspected after child walks away from mother’s crash

The Spokesman-Review

A Spokane Valley mother faces criminal charges after police say her toddler walked away from a drunken car crash as she tried to free her vehicle.

Denice L. Goode, 42, was booked into Spokane Count Jail today on misdemeanor charges of drunken driving and reckless endangerment after the 1:45 a.m. crash at East Bridgeport Avenue and North Marguerite Road.

Goode reportedly told deputies she’d cut a corner too sharply and driven onto boulders, then allowed her three-year-old son to play outside as she tried to free her 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, according to a news release.

Spokane Valley police officers found the boy at the 7-Eleven on North Argonne Road, about two blocks from the crash scene.

The boy’s father, who was working, picked him up, according to a news release.

Goode remains in jail on $1,000 bond. She was convicted of drunken driving twice in 2002, according to news archives.

This time she should lose her license and serve some time. And those agencies who look after children should take a very hard look at the situation in which the toddler is attempting to survive (why was even in the car at 1:45 A.M.? Why would she let him just wander away? someone has to protect that child!

You all need to mind your own business. My mom is a great mother. Everyone makes mistakes. Spokane is full of meth heads. We live across from a school and you wouldnt believe the people high on methamphetamines that pick up their children from school. Alcoholism is a disease, not a choice. Mind your own f&*%ing business!!!! I bet all of you that posted are picking up your meth pipe right now. At least my brother is a happy little boy. There are people out there beating their children and starving them go bitch at them because there are bigger problems and you dont even know what happened. GET A LIFE

This situation is an even more terrible story when it is your family involved. No one wants to take a son away from its mother unless proven guilty and in this case Denice is guilty. Alot of families have situations beyond control and now the law will take this into thier hands. We hope that Denice gets the help she needs and until then her son will be taken care of with the best of care from dad and family. The child should have never been in the car at that hour of the morning but should have been at home safe in bed awaiting daddy to come home after work. We want to protect him now that we are aware of what is going on. There are no excuses for these actions that were created!!!!!
