Auctions to fund Lutherhaven trip

Several Valley churches will hold an auction to raise money to send their youths to summer camp at Camp Lutherhaven on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The theme of the annual Lutherhaven dinner and auction is “Have a Heart for Lutherhaven.” The event is set for 5 p.m. next Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave. There will be a silent auction, live auction and dessert auction. Representatives from Lutherhaven will speak about the programs available.

The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Child care will be available. For tickets, call Christ Lutheran at (509) 928-7733.

Memorial service

The Rev. Bob Anderson, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church from 1985 to 1998, died on Jan. 9 of cancer. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd, 810 S. Sullivan Road.

Anderson, 69, attended Pacific Lutheran University and served churches in Centralia and Tacoma in addition to Good Shepherd. He left Spokane Valley for a position at First Lutheran Church in Kennewick, where he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma a few years after leaving the Valley.

A service was held in Seattle. His wife of 42 years, Mary, is expected to attend Wednesday’s service. All who knew Anderson are invited to attend.

Grief Share

Victory Faith Fellowship will offer a Grief Share class on Wednesday from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 2024 N. Argonne Road. The class is designed for those who have recently lost a loved one. Call (509) 922-1724 for more information.

Music at Millwood

Millwood Presbyterian Church will host a performance in its Music at Millwood concert series at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Tom Bandar on viola and Rachelle Ventura on piano will perform works by Rebecca Clarke, Granados and Vaughan Williams. Admission to the performance is a nonperishable food item for the Spokane Valley Food Bank. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

Community concert

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will put on its annual community concert to raise money for the Spokane Valley Food Bank at 7 p.m. Friday.

The theme of the event is “Some Enchanted Evening.” The performances in music, poetry and verse will include the Angus Scott Pipe Band, Kinderchor, ballet and a men’s Celtic trio. A dessert reception will follow.

Admission is $10 per person, $5 for students and $30 per family. Food donations will also be accepted. The church is at 4521 N. Arden Road.

Spaghetti dinner

The annual all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner hosted by St. John Vianney Catholic Church will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the church hall, 502 N. Walnut Road.

The menu also includes meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages. The meal is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children younger than 6.
