Agreed Texas Rangers right-hander Scott Feldman, a 17-game winner last season, agreed Friday to a one-year contract worth $2,425,000 and avoided an arbitration hearing.

•Left-hander Joe Saunders and the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a $3.7 million, one-year contract, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing next month. The 28-year-old was 16-7 with a 4.60 ERA last year and has a 33-14 record in the last two seasons.

•Right-hander Miguel Batista and the Washington Nationals agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Batista went 7-4 with one save and a 4.04 ERA in 56 relief appearances for Seattle last season.

Promoted The Philadelphia Eagles promoted Howie Roseman to general manager, although coach Andy Reid still has final say on personnel decisions as the NFL team’s president of football operations.

Retired Veteran coach Chris Palmer has retired after 38 seasons, including 20 in the NFL, with the last three coming as the New York Giants quarterbacks coach. During his NFL career, he tutored Pro Bowl quarterbacks Drew Bledsoe, Mark Brunell, Tony Romo and Eli Manning.

Extended Minnesota is sticking with football coach Tim Brewster, his vow to advance the program unfulfilled through three topsy-turvy seasons. Brewster and the university agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season.

Reassigned North Carolina-Wilmington basketball coach Benny Moss has been reassigned within the athletic department. Athletic director Kelly Mehrtens said assistant coach Brooks Lee will take over the program on an interim basis starting today. Moss was 41-74 in his fourth season at UNC-Wilmington, and went 23-45 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Pleaded Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga pleaded not guilty in northern Kentucky to drunken and careless driving.

Injured Olympic medal contender Didier Cuche broke his right thumb during a World Cup giant slalom, putting his participation at the Vancouver Games in doubt. The Swiss ski federation said Cuche traveled back to Switzerland and will have surgery in Zurich today.
