In brief: Gang connection suspected in knifings
Police are investigating what appears to be a gang-related stabbing involving two men early Saturday in southeast Spokane.
Spokane police officers responded around 3 a.m. to 616 S. Helena St. and found two victims with life-threatening stab wounds. The two men, one in his 20s and another in his 40s, may be related, police said.
The victims, who were not identified, were taken to a local hospital where they were in stable condition Saturday afternoon.
An initial investigation revealed that the incident may be gang-related. The investigation is ongoing.

Small plane crashes, but pilot not injured
A 41-year-old pilot escaped injury Saturday after his small aircraft crashed after takeoff near the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport.
The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an airplane crash about 10:30 a.m. A small 1979 Grumman single engine plane, commonly used for dusting crops, was found resting on its top in a field near the intersection of Airport Road and O’Donnell Road.
The pilot, Michael R. McDonald, 41, of Pocatello, Idaho, told authorities that an engine stalled shortly after takeoff, forcing him to make an emergency landing.
The aircraft flipped shortly after touching down, authorities said.
McDonald was not injured. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Colfax man arrested on child rape charge
An 18-year-old Colfax man was arrested on child rape charges Friday stemming from an incident six months earlier.
The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pullman Police Department, determined the incident took place in Albion, Wash. Because of the age of the child, no information is being released regarding the victim’s age or identity.
Arrested on suspicion of second-degree child rape was Joshua A. Bailey. He was booked into the Whitman County Jail.
According to state law, a person is guilty of second-degree rape if the person has sexual intercourse with someone at least 12 years old but less than 14 years old, if the two are not married and if the perpetrator is at least 36 months older than the victim.
