Trucks win in fixed game
I’m a competitive person by nature, and I hate losing, but I really hate losing a fight that I never had a chance in from the start. You know, it’s called a rigged game?
Well, that’s what I found out from sitting through a two-plus-hour meeting with Exxon Mobil, the Idaho Department of Transportation and many concerned local citizens. Citizens living along the river(s), or in any surrounding counties or anywhere else in the state of Idaho or the whole U.S., can oppose permitting the 207 oversize loads destined to travel up Lolo Pass, but if Exxon Mobil meets the criteria put forth by IDT, those voices mean nothing. An IDT spokesman agreed that every citizen in Idaho could oppose this and it would still have to be approved.
Apparently, our only recourse is to change some part of the Idaho code so that the people that live here have a say so in what happens within our borders. Contact your state reps. They may have missed the boat on this one.
