Fleeing theft suspect hit by car in downtown

A 39-year-old theft suspect was hit by a car in downtown Spokane today while attempting to flee from department store security officers. Macy’s store employees were in pursuit of William D. Isaacs who was eastbound on Main Street, when Isaacs ran into traffic on Stevens and was hit by a southbound car, Spokane Police said. Isaacs allegedly shoplifted merchandise from the department store about 2 p.m., and was caught by security who initiated the pursuit. A citizen also joined in the chase, Officer Glenn Bartlett said. Isaacs ran into the street against a don’t walk sign and was struck by the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to a downtown hospital for non life-threatening injuries. Isaacs is wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for city theft, and now faces new city theft charges, Bartlett said. Stevens was closed for a short time between Riverside and Main while officers investigated.
