Finders Keepers relocates quickly
Finders Keepers owner Deena Caruso and her employees are swabbing out the 112 S. Cedar St. store and moving the salvageable contents to a new location at 309 W. Second Ave.
Caruso said a pipe that broke overnight on June 21 spilled water into the Finders Keepers I Jewelry Galore Cedar store. She found a collapsed ceiling, water-filled jewelry cases and furniture standing in two inches of water in the store’s basement.
“Here’s the dirt? Let me tell, you here’s the dirt,” Caruso said Thursday.
She said she quickly found the location on Second between Serendipity and LoLo Boutique, and employees have been moving inventory ever since.
“Without my staff, I probably would not have moved,” she said, crediting her contractors and security company, as well.
“I’ve never had so much help,” Caruso said. “In nine days, it’s been incredibly miraculous.”
She said she had planned to open on Second next week, but has put the date off for a week.
The new store will sell only jewelry, she said. Furniture will be discontinued, and dresses and other clothing will be concentrated in the Finders Keepers Dress Boutique at 18 W. Main Ave.
“Thank God, we don’t have to move that,” Caruso said.
Moses Lake plant to get under way
Officials will break ground Wednesday on a $100 million carbon-fiber production plant in Moses Lake.
SGL Group announced in April it had selected Grant County for the facility, which will manufacture fiber for BMW Group. The German automaker said it will incorporate the new material into a Megacity Vehicle scheduled to hit showrooms in 2015.
The Moses Lake plant will employ 80. They will convert raw material produced in Japan into a fiber that will be exported to Germany, where it will be processed into fabric to be incorporated into the new vehicle.
Production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2011.
The manufacturing plant and adjacent office building will occupy 150,000 square feet on a 60-acre site northeast of Grant County International Airport. SGL spokeswoman Elizabeth Breyer said an additional 60 acres has been optioned for a potential expansion.
New tenants
in Valley park
Three new tenants have taken leases inside buildings at the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, 3808 N. Sullivan Road. They are:
• Victor Chimiente Inc., a trucking company, taking 4,800 square feet in Building 18.
• Reser’s Fine Foods, a food products warehouse and distributor, taking roughly 6,000 square feet in Building 14.
• Coil Tech, a custom sheet metal fabricator, taking 12,000 square feet in Building 5.
