Competition heated at leagues’ mid-season

The Spokane Valley Baseball and Softball leagues have reached the midpoint of their seasons.

In baseball, the Midget League is close, with half the league still in the title picture. NW Building Components from Trent is unbeaten but with a tie, joining two other teams with four wins apiece.

The Trent team deadlocked once-beaten Autocraft from University 16-16. In that game Isaiah Hainline went 3-for-3, drove in two runs and scored three. Hainline also scored three times, as did Joseph George and Trent Conley during Autocraft’s 16-7 win over Spokane Recycling.

American On-Site Services (Pasadena), with a 4-1 record, whipped Intermountain Fabricators 12-1, with Ryan Leifer hitting three doubles among four hits and scoring six runs in two wins. Nathan Thompson and Tommy Standiford had two-hit games, Connor Koker homered, driving in five runs and scoring three. Hunter Wright struck out six and allowed no hits or runs in his three innings of work.

Liberty Lake I continued its perfect run through the PeeWee League, improving to 6-0. Hurliman Heating (Chester I) is also unbeaten among six teams with one or fewer losses.

Liberty Lake’s Mitchell Axtell fanned nine in three shutout innings during one win and Mason Scott was 3-for-4 in another.

Hurliman Heating got four hits, including a double, four runs scored and three RBIs by Blake Dickinson, while Campbell Barrington struck out six in two innings during the victory.

Correy Quinn struck out eight and allowed one hit for Elephant Boys (Adams II). Reed Kannopian hit two doubles and drove in four runs for Dr. Sodorff DDS (Chester II). Jack Albert had three hits, driving in three runs, and scored three times for Gibson’s Nursery (McDonald).

Valley Girls Softball

18U – Three teams have four wins led by unbeaten Homerun Construction. Cheyenne Valderrama pitched a one-hitter in one of Homerun’s wins and had a shutout in another. Allie Riggin’s bat supported the team, including a three-run home run, to beat WKA Innovations 4-0.

14U – Three teams are essentially tied in the league: Marz Mountain and Flying J with 4-1 records, Baker Construction at 3-1.

Baker’s Madison Hovren had four hits in a game last week and Makenna Wasteney struck out 10 in one game, Sarah Gingras hit a three-run homer, and Olivia Clark scored four times in another.

12U – Megawash and Planet Beach improved to 5-0 at season’s midpoint. Woodcraft (5-1) and Jewell (4-1) are right behind.

Highlights for Megawash in three wins included 11- and 12-strikeout pitching efforts by three pitchers including Paige Barbeau, the latter a one-hit victory. Aubrey West pitched in the second game and fanned 10 in the third win. Jezreel Graf hit a two-run double in the first win and was 2-for-3 with a double in the third. In between, Ellen Crawford drove in three runs and Kelce Knaeble was 3-for-3.

Planet Beach’s Courtney Carolan hit two home runs to drive in three runs in one game and went 2-for-2 with another homer and four runs scored. Natalie LeGrand went 3-for-3 and Alisha Straw 2-for-3 to also produce runs, while Elise Peck scored six times, three each in two of the three wins last week.

10U – UNICEP improved to 6-0 last week in a league where four teams have one or fewer losses. Kassie Keller tripled twice during one of UNICEP’s victories.

Old Country Buffet (4-1) got three triples from Paige Wollen and two triples and a double from Renae Maynard in one victory. Hannah Conant hit two home runs and a double in another.

Other highlights: Myers Drywall’s Sammy Sennott was 3-for-3 and homered, as did Grace Dwyer, who was involved in two double plays; Western Family’s Jaylin Steen hit a grand slam homer; Mist’s Julie Mitchell was 4-for-4 and scored three times, then had a game-ending double play.
