Wildfire destroys home and other buildings

MOSES LAKE — A wind-whipped wildfire destroyed three buildings, including a home, and several vehicles in Central Washington today. Firefighters spent several hours bringing the blaze under control and by 7 p.m. had lifted an evacuation request for the McConihe Flats community, about three miles northwest of Moses Lake, according to the Grant County Emergency Management Office. Flames charred more than 1,200 acres, officials said, and damage assessments still were being conducted. In addition to a home, a free-standing shop and another out-building was destroyed by the fire; several vehicles were damaged. No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire was still under investigation.
