Couple who died in boating accident from Sandpoint

One man survives late-night crash into Long Bridge pilings

The couple killed in a late night boating accident Saturday on Lake Pend Oreille have been identified as Darby Campbell, 30, and his wife Amber Campbell, 34, both of Sandpoint. According to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, the two were in a motorboat that smashed into the pilings and supports of the Long Bridge near Sandpoint about 11:20 p.m. A third occupant, 31-year-old Gerred Campbell, survived the crash and was taken to Bonner General Hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. A story from the Aug. 14, 2009 Bonner County Daily Bee indicates that Amber Campbell was co-owner of the Wildflower Day Spa in downtown Sandpoint with Dauray Owens. Campbell’s Facebook page indicates that she and her husband Darby split their time between Sandpoint and Maui and had been married since 2007. She was a 1994 graduate of Sandpoint High School.
