Boating accident victims identified

The couple killed in a late night boating accident Saturday near Sandpoint have been identified as Darby Campbell, 30, and his wife Amber Campbell, 34, both of Sandpoint.

They were among three people in a motorboat that smashed into the pilings and supports of the Long Bridge on Lake Pend Oreille about 11:20 p.m., according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.

Gerred Campbell, 31, survived the crash and was taken to Bonner General Hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A story from the Aug. 14, 2009, Bonner County Daily Bee reports that Amber Campbell was co-owner of the Wildflower Day Spa in downtown Sandpoint with Dauray Owens. Campbell’s Facebook page indicates that she and her husband Darby, who were married in 2007, split their time between Sandpoint and Maui. She was a 1994 graduate of Sandpoint High School.
