Stevens is the answer
On June 27 Shannon Sullivan wrote that she has a question for each candidate running for prosecutor: “Will you prosecute a law enforcement officer?”
Given Steve Tucker’s reputation, I can understand the question but don’t think asking it will give you a useful answer. I believe that each candidate, incredibly even Tucker, would say yes.
To get the answer you want, Shannon, you need to look at each candidate’s background. As you mentioned, the feds stepped in to do Tucker’s job. He won’t do it.
Chris Bugbee has regularly represented law enforcement officers accused of crimes. He is on the preferred defense attorney list for the Police Guild and is endorsed by the Guild. The Guild is the same group that phonied up membership votes and opposes any oversight. Bugbee has protected officers in the past, so you have to wonder if he’ll do it in the future.
Dave Stevens is a career prosecutor, endorsed by many individual law enforcement officers who know that just as Dave has stood up to Tucker, he will fight for justice and not for the Guild.
Shannon, the answer to your question is Dave Stevens. See his plan for Spokane at ElectDaveStevens.com.
