Memorial service Thursday for fallen marine

A memorial service for the 23-year-old U.S. Marine killed June 22 while serving in combat operations in Afghanistan will be Thursday in Spokane Valley.

Services for Cpl. Joshua R. Dumaw, a graduate of West Valley High School, are planned for 3 p.m., at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Rd.

A reception will follow in the church auditorium.

Dumaw was a military policeman assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force based in Cherry Point, N.C.

Dumaw, who served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2008, will receive a Purple Heart for his heroic efforts in Afghanistan, his family said.
