Capital disappointment

I spent a week in Washington, D.C., as a fellow in the George Nethercutt Foundation. It was a great experience, and we met many political leaders, lobbyists and members of the media.

One of the only disappointments of the trip was our “meeting” with Washington Sen. Patty Murray. Our group was scheduled for a half hour sit-down with her to ask questions about current issues and her role in our government. We were all excited to meet with someone who directly represents us in Congress.

Our time with her consisted of a group photo and a handshake. She didn’t entertain any questions, ask us about our trip or really speak at all. I was so frustrated by her lack of respect for us, her constituents. I expect more from my elected officials and in an election year, I think it is important that voters realize who they are sending to Washington, D.C.

Sen. Murray has lost my vote. I hope in the future she will come to realize that representing the state of Washington means remembering the people she serves.
