Turn to vouchers

In response to recent articles such as “Dropout rate battles disconnected” (June 27), may I humbly suggest that we are not alone in the world of trying to increase graduation rates. I recommend we look around us near (Idaho) and far (Sweden) to see what works and focus our resources on that program instead of experimenting with a number of different strategies.

Additional taxes are both unnecessary and politically improbable due to the state of the economy. School voucher programs help all children achieve high school diplomas, according to a growing body of research regarding publicly funded private school choice programs. These findings come at a crucial time, as President Obama, members of Congress and, yes, many citizens of Spokane have called for additional discussions on improving graduation rates.
