Spokane scores in ninth to knot game
EVERETT – Good thing the Northwest League took a night off Wednesday. Little did these two teams know that they were going to need the rest.
Yefry Castillo’s second double of the game, and his fifth of the season, brought home Jared Hoying and Daniel Lima with two out and the Spokane Indians beat the Everett AquaSox 5-3 in 15 innings Thursday night.
Zack Osborne (1-2) threw 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief, striking out six, to pick up the win. Indians pitchers had 21 strikeouts.
The Indians rallied to deadlock the game with a run in the ninth inning. Andrew Clark singled off reliever Stephen Pryor to start the rally. Castillo lashed a double to left field with pinch runner Ryan Stausborger going to third. After a pop out, Pryor threw a wild pitch, scoring Strausborger. But with one out, the Indians couldn’t score Castillo from third.
Spokane closed to within 3-2 in the eighth inning. Clark Murphy singled with one out to left field and advanced to second on an error on the play. He went to third on a wild pitch and came home on Hoying’s single to right field. Hoying had three hits.
The Indians, trailing 2-0, got their first run in the sixth inning when Murphy, who had singled, eventually came home on a fielder’s choice.
Everett, leader of the West Division at 14-6, has five losses against the Indians (10-9), who are a half-game back of first-place Boise in the East Division.
