In brief: Food bank hours set for summer season
FAIRFIELD – The North Palouse Community Food Bank will be open from 9 a.m. to noon today, July 24 and Aug. 14 and 28 as well as from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Aug. 19.
The food bank is supported entirely by community donations and serves Fairfield, Rockford, Latah and Waverly. It is located behind the Fairfield Fire Station on North Railroad Street. Those with emergency food needs can call (509) 279-0842 or (509) 844-8551.
Public input sought on biking, walking plan
SPOKANE VALLEY – The public is invited to participate in a survey as the city of Spokane Valley prepares its first Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan. The short survey on the city’s website at www.spokanevalley.org will let the city know how the community wants to accommodate bicycling and walking activities.
The survey will be available through July 31. The results will be shared during a community workshop to be held in August or September. Print copies of the survey are available at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave., or by calling (509) 720-5325.
Artist will display various works outdoors
SPOKANE – Spokane artist Dan Wolrehammer, 55, will continue the public presentation of his paintings in a show he calls “Art in the Yard,” today and Sunday, beginning mid-morning and ending around 7 p.m. each day. The event will take place at his home at 9206 E. Maringo Drive, just north of the Spokane River and east of Argonne Road.
Wolrehammer, who signs his work “sabu,” is offering some 40 paintings in airbrush, liquid enamel and gel pens, on subjects ranging from the abstract to still life, animals and landscapes.

Car show benefits Good Samaritan
SPOKANE VALLEY – The Good Samaritan Society, 17121 E. Eighth Ave. in Spokane Valley, will host a hot rod car show on July 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The event includes Model T’s, Model A’s and more hot rods, along with a dunk tank and a jumping castle for the kids. Hot dogs, cotton candy and refreshments will also be available to purchase.
Admission is free. All proceeds are donated to the Good Samaritan Leisure Services, which benefit the residents.
